- If you have used your recently on plaster and sanding dust, this can clog the filters of the bagless type, so empty and check if they need replacing or cleaning, especially if pick-up or suction is not what it should be. Some are washable, like on DYSON DC04 and DC07). The later filters on the old DC01 are now washable a few times.
- On upright cleaners, check the beater bars regularly, for any carpet threads or similar, wrapped around it. Removed regularly, this can stop a build up that might otherwise mean the removal of the sole-plate and the beater assembly. Even small objects can cause it to jam, and damage the belt.
- If yours becomes intermittent (stops and starts), check it is not a damaged lead or plug. If tapping the plug makes it go, it could be loose wires, check and replace it if needed. If you can make it go by flexing the cable at strategic points, like near the plug, or near where the cable comes out of the vacuum body, it may have an intermittent break in the cable. If its in the first 4 inches or so, near the plug, then you can cut this off, and strip and re-wire into a replacement one. Make sure it is the rubberised sort, (for appliances like vacuums, where the plug might be dropped frequently), to BS1363A.
- On a DYSON, if the wand is stiff going back into the hose, it could be dust in the coils, or distorted/damaged hose coils. Try a bit of spray polish on the wand, to see if it becomes better. If not, replace the hose.
- If your DYSON DC01, DC04, or DC07 is not picking up well during normal floor vacuuming (i.e. not using the hose, and the hose is OK), see the FAQ on this HERE.
