A home is everyone`s safe haven so protecting it from intruders is paramount. A trespasser who is up to no good will usually break into a property they believe is easy to gain access to. They would be much more likely to be deterred to attempt to gain access to a property which was securely locked up and would have difficulty in entering. Therefore, protecting and securing your home based on practical and proven products and methods offers peace of mind.
There are many ways to secure your home or any property. Fitting strong locks to all external windows and doors and never leaving any keys on the locks in view is vital. The different window locks available include a pivot lock which is a steel deadlock, a lockable window handle which once closed locks automatically and also provides protection to a partially opened window by locking it in place. A stay lock window is a lock that fits through the holes on a usual casement window and keeps it securely and firmly locked. There are also different locks for different windows such as a sash lock for sash windows, a metal lock suitable for metal windows and locks and bolts which are more suited to UPVC windows.
Doors can also be secured with extra locks such as strong and powerful deadlocks which must comply with British Standard regulations (BS3621), 1998 for Thief Resistant Locks. Deadbolts are a high security lock that has undergone thorough testing against breaking through it. Door chains and a viewer or spy hole can offer extra security.
Alarm systems fitted to a house are excellent deterrents against burglaries. There are plenty of alarm systems available in varying degrees of quality. The different systems range from low cost DIY kits to more expensive and sophisticated ones. A basic system would usually work by infrared movement sensors and come with a siren or bell which will be fitted inside an all weather box and it would be operated using a keypad. These types of alarms ultimately rely on someone contacting the police when the siren is heard. Alternatively the monitored alarm system works by the siren being picked up directly via a private security station who informs the police to act upon it. This type of system is particularly ideal for properties located in remote or isolated areas. Another alarm system is the auto dialer set; this alarm works by using an auto dialer which means that when the alarm is activated the system then dials pre-programmed numbers, such as family or friends, to inform of the situation. An example of this type of system is the Honeywell speech dialer. This is an alarm system that has many features providing good security to a property. The Honeywell alarm system offers 3 trigger inputs that are programmable and the alarm allows you to input three alarm messages; it also features 20 seconds of message recording time and an adjustable playback volume control. When purchasing any type of alarm system whether basic or higher quality it is important that it is approved by the trade and holds compliance with the British Standard BS6707 regulations.
Nowadays homes can be protected with many secure fixtures and fittings to keep them safe. The doors in our homes need to be tightly secured and made safe as they are the quickest way for an intruder to enter. Usually the back doors to a property are broken into first however, if they consist of a sliding door it could prove very difficult for any forceful entry due to Sliding door hardware and locks which are very hardwearing and strong to keep outsiders out.
