Leading appliance spares website gets a revamp
As UK consumers are looking to save money wherever possible given the current economic climate, a leading online appliance parts retailer has revamped their website with the sole aim of making it easy for consumers to fix faulty home appliances themselves.
Do-it-yourself appliance repairs are a cost-effective option compared to buying new or calling in a professional repair service. A new cooker or washing machine is likely to cost in excess of £300. In contrast many spare parts such as cooker elements and washing machine carbon brushes can cost as little as £15.
BuySpares are the UK largest retailer of appliance spare parts. Their new look website includes a range of features designed to enable consumers to fix their own appliances should they develop a fault.
Among the new additions are a range of how-to videos that clearly demonstrate how to fit spare parts and maintain appliances, covering everything from replacing a cooker hood filter to combating a smelly washing machine. Alongside video guides, the website also features an ‘ease of fit’ rating on parts to demonstrate the amount of diy skill required and a guide to common appliance faults.
Talking about the new site, BuySpares Head of Marketing Richard Williams, states “over the last 12 months we have noticed considerable growth in the demand for spare parts. The economic situation and peoples attitude towards the environment is likely to be a factor in this. With the new site we wanted to take the mystery out of appliance spares and show that fitting parts can often be as simple as just pushing or clipping them in place.”
The other improvements to the website are centred on the site navigation and checkout process. Using a combination of informative pop-ups and simple filtering the website is designed to take the user to the exact part for their model of appliance. The checkout process has be shortened to save time and a sign in feature added to make it easy to order in the future as delivery addresses and order details are remembered.
With regard to the sign-in feature, Mr Williams added “not only is this a great time saving feature, it is also core to our aim of getting people to think repair rather than replace.”
BuySpares have also integrated product review into their site so that customers can share their views and read the opinions of other DIY appliance repairers. It is hoped that through these reviews customers will not just rate the usefulness of particular products but also share their repair experiences and tips with other shoppers.

The Ideal Home Show Christmas will run over five days, from the 16th - 20th November at London’s Earls Court, based on the same format as the London and Scotland events, including the brand’s flagship zoned areas that include; Ideal Home Improvements, Food, Interiors and Woman sections, but featuring a Christmas twist and with more Gadgets, shopping and gifts for all the family, in time for the busiest retail shopping period of the year.

“Ideal Home Show Christmas will be our third annual event in the Ideal Home Show Calendar, and comes at a time when the consumer public are looking to spend more time improving the homes that they live in, rather than moving.“
“Christmas is also a key time for homeowners to finish off their last minute DIY projects before families get together for the holidays, so it is a perfect time for us to help consumers create their perfect family Christmas at home.”
