The www.letsfixit.co.uk site is a DIY information site, mainly aimed at the busy homeowner, who may wish to “have a go” at fixing a broken appliance, or perform various DIY or plumbing tasks, but is unsure of how to proceed.
As stated in many parts of this web site, if you are unsure about ANY task, call on the services of a professional tradesman.
ALL INFORMATION ON THIS SITE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND IS VALID IN THE UK ONLY. ALL VISITORS MUST CHECK THE DISCLAIMERS PAGE BEFORE PROCEEDING.
PRIVACY: Note that NO pop-ups are used on this site, and there are NO COOKIES used to track information used by the site itself. Only the STATCOUNTER site uses a cookie, to see if a visitor is a returning visitor, or a new (unique) visitor, to maintain the visitor counter on the home page. However, note that any browser that blocks cookies will not increment the visitor counter. This is why the TOTAL VISITS counter has a higher count, since it counts raw visits, and does not distinguish between unique PC’s. Note that any e-mails received are kept in a different area to this site, and any e-mail addresses are NOT used or passed on to a third party. We always ask permission to use questions for FAQ inclusion, and will only ever use initials and county as the source. Note that I have NO CONTROL over third-party sites that you go to via the useful links section or affiliate links, so please check individual privacy links for any site that concerns you.
NOTES ON COOKIES:
Many none-technical PC users get “worried” about browser cookies. There is a lot of “hype” created by various forums, security companies, people or companies selling security software and scanning software. Some individuals also believe that their privacy is threatened by browser cookies. The truth is that a standard cookie is just a text file, and can add to the users browsing experience, rather than hinder it. These can be blocked of course, as there are many user settings in any good browser for this sort of thing. Indeed in the CHROME browser, there is an anonymous mode. However, if Amazon detects that I recently searched for JAZZ CD’s, and my wife likes Kitchen Gadgets, SO WHAT!! (I actually found that useful recently, as it reminded me about a rare CD I wanted). The main security concerns that SHOULD concern users, is: Do I have good local security and ANTIVIRUS software, along with a software or hardware firewall, and do I have strong enough passwords so that all my accounts I use are secure? Unless you frequent file sharing sites, I suspect you find it very RARE to get any virus or Trojan, but your security software may frequently spot “tracking cookies” (if you pay for yearly subscription updates, you expect it to do something for you!!). If you are concerned about Internet security, & online banking, then think about installing the very useful RAPPORT software by TRUSTEER.
Please see the many web resources for further technical information about cookies, by using your browser search facilities. Note also that THIS site does not use ADOBE FLASH directly, only INDIRECTLY via affiliate advertising. Any LSO COOKIES placed by FLASH advertising can easily be removed by a FIREFOX add-in from BETTER-PRIVACY (NOTE: only click that link if you want to use the add-on in FIREFOX). The CHROME browser has something similar already built-in.
